Default Google Sheets charts are functional, but they aren’t exactly beautiful🪄. If you are preparing a pitch deck, a financial report for investors, or a presentation for your boss, aesthetics matter.
In this guide, we are going to show you how to create a stunning, modern bar chart in Google Sheets in under 60 seconds using the Charts by Bilgu add-on.
Step 1: Install the Charts Add-on
To get started, you’ll need the Charts add-on from the Google Workspace Marketplace. It’s completely free to install and takes one click.

- Open a Google Sheet.
- Go to Extensions > Add-ons > Get add-ons.
- Search for “Charts” (or click this direct link).
- Click Install.
Note: The add-on runs entirely within Google’s infrastructure. It never sends your spreadsheet data to external servers, so it’s 100% safe for sensitive financial data.
Step 2: Prepare Your Data
In this example we will consider create a bar chart as it works best when you are comparing different categories. Keep your data clean and simple. You need two columns: one for your labels (categories) and one for your values (numbers).

Step 3: Open the Charts Studio
Instead of using the default Google chart tool, we are going to use our new superpower.

A sidebar will slide out on the right side of your screen. This is where you can access our add-on either on google sheets or slides

Step 4: Customize Your Bar Chart
By selecting the Chart type as Bar Type, you can then proceed to select the Orientation and Bar Mode
- Orientation: Choose between a vertical column chart or a horizontal bar chart.
- Bar Mode: If you have multiple data series, stack them or group them side-by-side.
Below that you can see the Data Table editor interface. Highlight on all the cell data’s and then click on all this icon to import the data.

If you want to customize look and feel of the chart, you can click on Style & Colors Tab to customize:
- Colors: Ditch the default primary colors. Use hex codes to perfectly match your brand guidelines or company colors.
- Corner Radius: Give your bars rounded corners for a sleek, modern, SaaS-like aesthetic.
- Gridlines & Labels: Toggle off messy gridlines for a minimalist look, or turn on Data Dots to make exact numbers pop.

Step 5: Insert and Impress
Once your chart looks exactly how you want it in the preview, just click the Insert Chart button at the bottom of the sidebar.

The add-on generates a high-resolution, pixel-perfect image of your chart and drops it directly onto your active sheet.
Why use the Charts Add-on instead of native charts?
If you only need a quick visual reference for yourself, default charts are fine. But if you are presenting data to other people, presentation is everything.
- Professional Aesthetics: Rounded corners, custom backgrounds, and modern typography make your data look like it was designed by a professional graphic designer, not spat out by a spreadsheet.
- Multi-App Support: The exact same add-on works directly inside Google Slides too! No more copying and pasting broken charts between apps.
- Zero Learning Curve: The interface is incredibly intuitive. You don’t need to dig through 5 layers of menus just to change a background color.
Ready to upgrade your data?
Stop settling for boring reports. You can install the Charts add-on for free from the Google Workspace Marketplace today.
